Overseers moved more often than proprietors and were recorded less consistently than enslaved labour. This makes a name-by-name index difficult and uneven by construction.
The index uses estate inventories as the primary spine, with parish burial registers and shipping arrivals as the cross-check.
Several overseers appear in three or four parishes within a single decade. The index does not assume these are the same person. It records each appearance and links them only where a separate source confirms the connection.
